The New England Chapters of the National MS Society, in collaboration with the Partners Pediatric MS Center at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, invites you and your family to another exciting “Kids Get MS Too”:

“Choices and Challenges”

Saturday, September 15, 2007
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Browne Center for Innovative Learning, Durham, New Hampshire
This program is free but you must register by September 10th
Breakfast and lunch will be provided and overnight accommodations are available.

We are planning a day of fun, information and networking to help you and your child prepare for challenges and choices that are part of an MS diagnosis! This important and exciting program for children and teens with MS brings families together to learn more in an environment geared to make kids feel comfortable asking questions. Kids and teens are given a chance to talk, listen, and interact with others who are going through similar situations.  Children and teens are encouraged to bring their siblings and/or a friend with them for this fun day.

Children and teens will be able to network and socialize while interacting on the low and high elements of the Browne Center’s Universal Challenge Course, including elements such as the Spider’s Web, the giant Teeter-Totter, Nitro-Crossing, and the Burma and Catwalk Bridges.  This Universal Challenge Course allows all participants to be fully integrated into the fun activities we have planned for our day! Kids and parents will have the opportunity to participate in all activities based on their comfort level. Discussions opportunities for parents will include comments from Dr. Tanuja Chitnis, MS neurologist; Dr. Mark Gorman, neurology fellow; Dr. Ellen Braaten, Neuropsychologist: and Catie Becker, MS Nurse.  These discussions will include: factors involved in deciding a treatment plan, treatment options on the horizon, managing school, and strategies for making medication adherence easier.

Financial assistance is available to families in need, and can include transportation and overnight accommodations for those traveling long distances. For families interested in utilizing overnight accommodations for either Friday, September 14th or Saturday, September 15th, the Chapter is arranging accommodations with the Comfort Inn in Dover, NH.  For more information regarding financial assistance or if you are interested in arranging for overnight accommodations, please contact Sarah Fimian at 1-800-493-9255, option 2, ext 153.
